They should be more clear that this has only <1 gallon tank. Penguin has the same size tank and it's cheaper.. so I would have gotten that model if I'd known. Of course I could have read all the reviews but sometimes you don't have luxury of time to read all the reviews. The name of the product should have read either '2.3 gallon/day' or '1 gallon (tank)'.
Machine itself works fine and quiet. But I still hate that I have to refill the tank so often.

I felt it was noisy at first, better than warm mist humidifier, but still had a bit noise. Now I am used to it. Such a bit noise doesn't bother me anymore. So generally speaking, it's quite good!

Bought from Amazon as a backorder item (on 1/11/10), scheduled to ship on 2/4/10. Next day Amazon e-mailed new estimated ship date - 1/26/10. A day after that I got tracking number and an ETA of 1/15/10. Great job Amazon!
Crane humidifier is a nice and small cold mist humidifier that provides good humidity for a small size bedroom (aprox 12'x14').
During winter humidity level in my apartment usually below 20%, so Crane is a big help during nightime.
There are two cons:
Tank rans out of water in about 6-7 hours on maximum level.
And if you put it on a bedside table it sounds like an aquarium filter( on maximum output level) with slight humming and water sounds, so if you're a light sleeper it's very annoying.
It's a very good idea to use either distilled or filtered water to fill the tank with. White dust is not a myth. If you have crappy tap water white dust will settle in the vicinity of the humidifier.
RTFM - it has several helpfull tips on usage and cleaning( mine needs to be cleaned every 3-4 days)

I purchased the Crane 2.3 Gallon Cool Mist humidifier after reading the great reviews. Out of the box, I filled it up, plugged it in, and my dry lips / sinus conditions went away. However, it has been a little over a week now, and the humidifier has stopped working. Not broken because the light still comes on, but it just doesn't shoot out vapor anymore. Hopefully the unit I got was an anomaly because when it worked, it was great. But I might have to look elsewhere for a bedroom humidifier...

I am a first time user of a humidifier and needed one for my bedroom so I was looking for something really quiet. I originally bought one at Walgreens which said "whisper quiet", though, and it was so loud I couldn't sleep without earplugs, which made me dubious of other similar claims as I was searching for a replacement. This was one of the few with outstanding reviews and it was within my price range so I decided to give it a try. What a great choice! It holds a lot of water and is so quiet you can barely hear it. In fact, besides the indicator light it is hard to tell it is on sometimes without standing next to it and looking for the vapor. Every now and then it will release some bubbles as it refills the base from the reservoir but I don't mind that one bit and it doesn't wake me up (and I'm a light sleeper). Overall, great product for the price.
